We got engaged last summer. I planned to have a picnic lunch at a midwestern prairie under the shade of a big mulberry tree. We had to do a sweaty, long bike ride on that cloudless summer morning to get to this spot, which is located deep in the heart of the prairie. We rode through the rugged trail that cleaves the otherwise-continuous tallgrass haven. The area was calm except for the chirps from the prairie's flying dwellers. We even got to see a small deer family on the way. Once we were at the mulberry tree, it was as close to nature as I could hope for, and with all the privacy that we needed. The bags that I was carrying had some flowers, wine, some home-baked gougère, cheese, meat, etc. That sufficed to set up a charcuterie board under the shade.
I'm gonna stop here since the rest of the story went as expected: Picnic, a small speech, "the question", answer, rings, ...
A photo that I took with the help of a tripod phone stand from that day after the engagement is uploaded below.
